Welcome to our discussion forum, intended primarily for members of Metropolitan Washington Mensa (MWM). Mensans from elsewhere, and non-Mensans, are also welcome. (So beware when posting anything you want to stay private within MWM!)

Beware: messages are NOT pre-screened. Though we try to encourage a civil tone, some opinions expressed, or the manner in which they are expressed, may be offensive. All messages express the views of the author, NOT those of MWM, American Mensa, Mensa International, the owners/moderators of this group, etc.

We do not require proof of age, so there are minors reading and posting, so your postings should not be obscene, vulgar, or sexually explicit. Additionally because we are all humans, postings should not be hateful, threatening, or otherwise violate any laws. Please respect strong opinions and not respond by name-calling. Spam will be deleted, along with the sender.

The moderators and the owner of the littlem Group reserve the right to remove or close any thread if deemed to violate the above guidelines. Posters who violate these guidelines may be subject to having their messages sent to the moderator for pre-screening, or may be banned from the Group and lose all posting privileges.

Members of littlem may upload files and photos to this Group. Files and photos are subject to the same guidelines as posted messages. MWM Currents is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Metropolitan Washington Mensa local group for Mensans in DC, N. VA, part of WV, and all MD (MWM and MM).

MWM Currents is a private, moderated group -- not owned, operated or officially recognized by American Mensa, Limited (AML). It is owned and operated by a member of MWM for the friendly members of MWM and vicinity. This is a safe zone. No one will be publicly threatened, personally attacked, spammed, or otherwise abused here, while we can prevent it.

Currents is for honest and friendly discussion regarding people, issues and currents in events and our lives.

This SIG started in April 2006. Members post in a spirit of affability and good humor. We want to enjoy and improve life by meeting fun and interesting people online and in person. All messages will be moderated to prevent spammers from joining us, and to ensure an atmosphere of harmony and mutual civility and respect.

To qualify, send an email message with your Mensa member number and your name to MWM_Currents-owner@yahoogroups.com from the address with which you apply to join. Establish a Yahoo user profile or Yahoo won't let you use the on line website of a Yahoo Group. Please put your first and last name and city/state in the profile to identify yourself in on line communications with Currents. It's easy to establish a special profile just for Currents, if there's concern about privacy. We ask that you make an introduction of yourself to Currents members after you join.

While some of it is important to spur us to greater heights, much of it is dispiriting and mind-numbing. Innovitation intends to address this without adopting escapism. Our basic mission is two-fold:

1. Focus on the Positive - Highlight what's right in our world: innovation, invention, research, discovery, community support and inspirational people.

2. Adopt and Encourage Can-Do Attitude - Have the mindset that there exists a solution for every problem. The key ingredients to finding solutions are a combination of: belief in working for the greater good, knowledge, collaboration, creative thinking, willingness to step outside the boundaries, informed risk-taking and perseverance.
