The Procrastinator’s RG
By Stephanie Smilay, RG Chair/Ottoman
Have you been putting off thinking about the Regional
Gathering taking place at the Dulles Hyatt on February 13 - 15? Well, we’re here to help, or at least to
persuade.
Is money the issue?
If you print, fill out, and mail the registration form and check before the end of 2003, you
get in at the great rate of $55 ($10 less than it will be in January). Further, Mensans fought city hall (me) and
won: if you cancel on or before January
31, we’ll refund your money in full. So
if you’re not certain if you’ll be able to attend, sign up! You have nothing to lose. And if you’re waiting to get your Christmas
check, we take credit cards.
Waiting to see what the programs will be? Well, here's the latest listing. We
will have (in no particular order) a DJ for the Saturday night
dance; pool parties for both Friday and Saturday nights in the hotel’s
Olympic-sized pool; outstanding hospitality by the hostess with the mostest, Lisa
O’Neal; a chocolate orgy that just won’t quit; an ice cream social; an auction
(please start thinking about what you will bring to sell off for MERF
scholarships); the traditional Occultorium; a fishbowl (of course); an
award-winning poet; a magician who never fails to fool me; wine-making and tasting; and a genuine
alpaca farmer (with products to sell, or so I hear). And of course, we’ll have hugging contests, hearts tournaments,
ice breakers, and games, games, games.
Ken Kaufman and JJ Armour are in charge of making sure you game fanatics
have nothing but a great time.
To top it off, we’re going to have a docent-led tour of the
new Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
featuring the Space Shuttle Enterprise, an F-4 phantom fighter,
and the Enola Gay. See more at the
Udvar-Hazy Center's web site.
We have an outstanding hotel space
right by Dulles airport (with a free shuttle from
the airport, so even the car-impaired can take a bus to the airport and get to
the RG). More than one person has
signed up for the Saturday night dinner or brunch because the quality of the
lunch was so good. And you should
definitely not procrastinate if you want a signature T-shirt; they’ll only be
available to those who order in advance, by January 15.
What’s missing? You
are! If you have questions or concerns,
call me at 202-232-0740 or email me at stephani@smart.net. If you want to volunteer (but of course you
do), give LocSec and volunteer coordinator
Nancy McMahan Farrar (nmmcmahan@erols.com) your name.
And if you want to put on a program, act fast! Marc Lederman (marc@paonline.com) is our Program Chair. I’m sure he’d love to hear from you. And so would I.
