What Is MWM?
MWM stands for Metropolitan Washington Mensa, a local chapter of American Mensa. Usually we are the third largest, behind Chicago, and sometimes second, behind only New York.
Where Is MWM?
As
you might have guessed from the name, we cover the Washington DC
metropolitan area. Very roughly, our area extends north about halfway
to Baltimore, south about halfway to Richmond, east about halfway to the
coast, and west just into West Virginia.
Why Should I Join MWM?
First,
if you qualify for Mensa, consider joining that for the fun
opportunities to hang out with other smart people. Then, if you happen
to be in our turf, join MWM so you know what's going on nearby! Even if
you're not in our turf, consider joining so you can receive our
award-winning newsletter, Capital M.
When Can I Experience MWM?
Every month, we have a New Members' Open House (sometimes known as New and Prospective
Members' Open House). There are also Mensa testing sessions,
occasional major events not requiring membership (e.g., Regional
Gatherings, Mind Games, etc.), and once in a while, public events where
we plan to have an official presence. See our Events page for more information.
How Can I Join MWM?
First you have to join American Mensa (not just any National Mensa within Mensa International).
Tell them you specifically want to be in Metropolitan Washington
Mensa. If you're in our turf, that will be the default anyway, but it
never hurts to be sure. |
